Top 3 Photography Props
March 9, 2023At our photography studio in Hemel Hempstead, we use a range of props for photography. Here are our top 3 props we use on a regular basis:
Plinth
A plinth is a platform or base that provides a stable surface to photograph objects or use as a prop for models. It’s versatile and comes in a range of materials, sizes, and colours to suit a variety of needs. Most commonly used in product photography, plinths are used to elevate and showcase products, food, jewellery or other subjects to enhance their visual appeal. They serve as a neutral stand that draws attention to the main subject to create a clean, professional image. Plinths are also customisable, allowing you to paint it whatever colour you like so that compliments your subject. In portrait and fashion photography, plinths can be used to create a more interesting composition and expand the range of poses a model can use i.e leaning against a thin long plinth or using it as a seat.
Chair/ Stool
A unique and stylish chair or stool can make a great photography prop. It can be used as a seat for models, providing a comfortable and relaxed place to sit during the shoot, or to add interest and texture to the background. Look for pieces with clean lines and interesting shapes that complement your subject. Chairs and stools can help you create more dynamic poses and compositions.
Practical Light Source
A practical light source such as a lamp provides additional illumination to your photos. Lamps come in different styles, sizes, and colours to match any decor. Also, by using an additional practical light source, photographers have greater control over the lighting in a scene. This allows them to adjust the light direction, intensity, and colour to achieve the desired look and feel. Practical light sources can be used to create unique and interesting lighting effects. For example, using coloured gels on practical lights can add a pop of colour to a scene or create a specific mood.
